Empathy

Charlotte was a sweet angel and good friend yesterday, truly showing empathy.

I had a call from the daycare director around 8:30 on Thursday morning. My heart always races when that number pops up, but this time the director (Diana) just wanted to know where we got Charlotte's patches. One of the other children in Charlotte's class has a scratched cornea and refused to wear the patch and shield from the ER. I told Diana that Noah was welcome to use Charlotte's patches, even if they were a little girly.

Wilson showed up at daycare a few minutes later and was greeted by Diana, who asked for Charlotte's help. Charlotte obliged, but was quite concerned that all her friends were on the playground (in the heat, playground time is extremely limited, so she didn't want to miss the fun). Noah was refusing to wear the patch over his eye. Diana took Charlotte to him, and she hugged him and told him it was okay. She even sweetly told him to be a big boy and wear his patch.

Diana later emailed: "Char and Noah have definitely bonded today. She came with us when we put in new drops after nap and changed the patch. Noah has been amazing with the patch -- and all the credit goes to Char. She talked him through it and kept him calm. She is so empathetic and warm with him! Alicia & Wilson - you should be so proud of her!"

We are definitely proud of our sweet girl! Daddy came home early last night and we all went for yogurt!

  2. Good job, Mom and Dad. We always know Charlotte is a sweetie but to show such concern at a young age. She is SO special and we are blessed to have her (and y'all) in our lives!
