Patching

Eye update....Charlotte now has her new contact lens for her bad (right) eye. She has to wear a patch on her good (left eye) to try to make her use the bad eye. In the visual system, the dominant eye will take over if there is a big difference between the eyes. We're faithfully following the pedi opthalmologist's recommendation of 50% patching during her waking time. Her teachers at Trinity Lutheran Church have been absolutely fabulous & will do whatever we ask, especially when it comes to her eye care.

We used to just be able to stick on the patch when she wasn't paying attention. Now she knows that patch time is not fun and gets her hands up when the patch comes close. This morning, Wilson distracted her with the wrapper from the patch and that worked well. Who knew paper was such a fun toy??? We imagine Charlotte and Major will have lots of fun with the Christmas wrapping paper.

Anyway, patching is not fun but it's our only hope to try to develop vision in that bad eye. She is in SUCH a good mood when the patch is removed, so we try to plan our outings around that happy time.

:)
