Charlotte is a great eater, but she definitely likes us to do the work! This is my attempt to give her the spoon -- the carrots just ended up on her hands. Looking at this picture makes me realize how long her hair is getting. Perhaps we need a trim?
Major's new favorite spot. He is the recipient of many Puffs, crackers, Teddy Grahams, & Nilla wafers. We need to reduce his dog food accordingly.
Prefers to gnaw on the sippy cup rather than drink. She apparently does really well with the sippy cup at school watching all the older kids with their cups.
Holding her dolly in one of her rocking chairs. This was an old rocking chair that I remember from my grandmother's house. It used to be green vinyl but Granny had it reupholstered before she died. It is a perfect fit for Charlotte's pink & green room.
We had a good report from Charlotte's pediatric opthalmologist on Monday. She continues to do as well as possible. Dr. Norman put a small sticker on his hand to see if she would grab it. She looked at it, looked at him, then looked at me. I think she saw it but didn't know what it was. I gave the doctor some puffs (little star shaped snacks a little bigger than a cheerio). He got about a foot away from her & put half a puff in his hand. She did not reach for it. He put a whole puff on his palm and she grabbed it. That gives us an idea what she is seeing with the contact lens & the patch over her good eye. The good eye continues to be fine, and the bad eye shows no signs of glaucoma or reformation of the cataract material!!! At this point, we're just seeing how her vision develops. The vision is still too bad for the intraocular lens implant surgery, she's in a +35 contact lens and I think she needs to be in the 20s for the lens implant. We follow up again in 2 months.
Wilson and I learned about the Retina Foundation of the Southwest via an online message board for parents of children with this problem. It's a foundation in Dallas that does research on all kinds of eye issues. We would love to participate in any research studies and help Charlotte as well as other children with these conditions. We'll see if any study opportunities arise.
So glad to hear about the good doctor's report! That is fantastic.
